In autumn, as the days get shorter and the nights get cooler we are reminded that it is time to prepare for the cold season ahead. Now you start to think about the allure of the fire….
In the rural areas fall is the perfect time for making sure that the firewood is split and stacked ready for the cool nights ahead. 
You can turn this into a fun family time having the whole family pitch in with the raking of leaves, collecting pine cones to make firestarters and enjoying the fresh air. It is the season where you want to make sure your chimney is safe, cleaned and ready to go. Checking the gaskets and the fire brick on your wood stove is necessary before the heating begins as this will make sure you are getting the most heat from your stove.
This is also the optimum time to have a wood stove and chimney installed before the ice and snow come. It is much safer to get roof work done and you have the added benefit of being ready whenever the cold weather hits.
Autumn is a beautiful time of year but one of preparation which will make coping with winter’s chill that much easier.
